Biography

An emerging Ghanaian fashion brand founded in 2016 by Jason Jermaine Asiedu, Jermaine Bleu’s effortlessly elegant, highly wearable, and garments can be characterised by its designer’s signature use of crepe and silk fabrics. Initially inspired to go into fashion by his seamstress mother, Asiedu draws upon his Ghanian heritage and culture to create collections that impart an air of considered minimalism. His collections epitomize this spirit, featuring details like high contrast hues, original patterning and batik prints applied by skilled local artisans.

Speaking to I-D Magazine, Asiedu explained his utilisation of fashion as a device for storytelling, something that he hopes will help to dispel the tired narratives of African designs that have become a lens through which much of the Western world sees the continent. “We need to rewrite these stories because if we don’t, then no one else is going to… It’s important that we don’t rely on letting other people tell them for us, especially since they may not tell them the right way, because they don't have the actual experience of these things or know people who have.”

Jermaine Blue has so far shown at events like Glitz Africa Fashion Week, Lagos Fashion Week, and Milan Fashion Week Men’s in 2020.
