Biography

Founded in 2017 by designer Kassim Lassissi, Allëdjo is a unisex clothing line designed and produced in Dakar, Senegal. Meaning nomad, or traveler in Yoruba—its Paris-born and Benin-raised designer’s native language—Allëdjo beautifully merges Lassissi’s passions for travel and style, its offering of billowing silk shirts, tailored suit sets, and other staple separates exuding a spirit of wanderlust and luxury.

Widely known for their unique, one-of-a-kind prints, Kassim forms each collection based on a destination and their culture. Through exploration and research, the brand allows these far flung inspirations to guide the creation of the vibrant, organic patterns that adorn their silk separates. With their pieces capturing the beauty in travel, Alledjo’s designs feature free and flowy silhouettes and electric colors, elements that have contributed to gradually gaining the brand an international cult following as well as fans in Congolese singer Fally Ipupa and British actor Regé-Jean Page. In 2020, Allëdjo made its fashion week debut at African Fashion International Fashion Week in South Africa, sending a nuanced collection of characteristically fluid garments down the runway. The brand has also received positive coverage and features in Vogue Italia, Vogue Business, Esquire, and more.

Besides simply producing beautiful pieces however, Allëdjo also aims to give visibility to African craftsmanship and contribute to developing the textile production industry on the continent by offering long-term job opportunities. “I choose noble fabrics that are light, airy and fluid,” explains Lassissi. “Our clothes are meant to feel comfortable while being ethically produced. I believe my work connects with people who believe in the beauty of the diversity of the world and the improvement of the social economic conditions of African artisans.”
